Litigation Paralegal
We are seeking an organised and experienced Litigation Paralegal to provide administrative support to the Litigation Partner at a law firm based in the central preston area.This role offers the opportunity to work closely with fee earners, clients and support teams across a varied litigation caseload while contributing to the efficient delivery of legal services.
The successful candidate will combine strong legal knowledge with excellent communication, research and organisational skills. They will support litigation teams with case preparation, legal research, document management, client correspondence, court administration and general paralegal duties while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
Key responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive paralegal and administrative support to fee earners across a busy litigation caseload.
Assist with the preparation, formatting, proofreading and amendment of pleadings, statements, witness evidence, applications, correspondence, reports and other legal documents.
Undertake legal research using relevant legislation, case law, procedural rules and online legal resources, presenting findings clearly and accurately.
Assist with the preparation of case chronologies, schedules, bundles, hearing notes, attendance notes and other litigation documentation.
Manage digital and paper-based matter files, ensuring documents are saved, organised, indexed and maintained in accordance with firm procedures.
Open, close and update client and matter files, completing relevant administrative checks and maintaining accurate records on the firm’s case management system.
Handle telephone calls, emails and correspondence from clients, solicitors, courts, counsel, experts and other external contacts in a professional and timely manner.
Assist with the preparation and submission of court forms, applications, notices, bundles and other documents, monitoring deadlines and escalating potential issues where required.
Assist fee earners with case progression, including reviewing documents, collating evidence, preparing instructions and tracking procedural milestones.
Communicate with clients to obtain information, provide updates as authorised and ensure that enquiries are recorded and followed up appropriately.
Arrange conferences, hearings, meetings, appointments and other commitments, maintaining accurate diaries and notifying relevant parties of changes.
Assist with legal billing administration, including time recording, disbursements, costs information and liaison with the legal accounts team.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with professional standards, data protection requirements, information security procedures and the firm’s policies.
Work effectively as part of a collaborative litigation team, contributing to a high standard of client service and operational efficiency.
Key skills and experience:
Previous experience working as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant or in a comparable litigation support role.
Experience supporting fee earners within a solicitors’ firm, legal department or professional services environment.
Good understanding of litigation terminology, civil procedure, court processes, case preparation and legal administration.
Strong legal research, analytical and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and accurately.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines and priorities effectively.
High level of attention to detail, with strong proofreading, document preparation and file management skills.
