Legal Cashier (Part-Time)
We are seeking an organised and detail-focused Legal Cashier to join a fast growing multi-practice area firm on a part-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to support the firm’s day-to-day financial operations, maintain accurate client and office account records and ensure all transactions are processed in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal procedures. The successful candidate will work closely with fee earners, support staff, clients and external institutions while maintaining high standards of accuracy, confidentiality and service.
Location: Central Preston Area (Hybrid considered). Working pattern: Part-time (14-20 hours)
Key responsibilities:
Process receipts, payments, transfers, CHAPS, BACS and online banking transactions accurately and within required timescales.
Maintain accurate client account and office account records in accordance with the Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules and firm procedures.
Complete daily postings, bank reconciliations and client ledger reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
Process completion statements, invoices, disbursements, refunds, transfers and payments to clients, third parties and other solicitors.
Assist fee earners with client account queries, financial transactions, account balances and payment requirements, providing a responsive internal service.
Monitor outstanding balances, unallocated funds and residual client balances, escalating issues and supporting the prompt resolution of queries.
Ensure appropriate authorisation, source-of-funds information, anti-money laundering checks and supporting documentation are in place before processing transactions.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive financial records, follow document retention requirements and protect confidential client and firm information.
Work collaboratively with colleagues across the firm and contribute to the development of cash office procedures, controls and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Key skills and experience:
Previous experience in a legal cashier, legal accounts or legal finance role within a solicitors’ firm.
Good working knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules, client money procedures, office accounts and legal accounting requirements.
Ideally experience within Private Client and/or Family Law.
Strong numerical, administrative and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
Familiarity with legal accounts or practice management systems, online banking platforms and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with fee earners, clients, banks and other external contacts.
Discreet and reliable approach, with a strong understanding of confidentiality, financial controls and regulatory compliance.
