Conveyancing Team Leader
We are looking for an experienced Conveyancing Team Leader to join our property team. This office-based role, with hybrid working options, will involve supervising and supporting a team of conveyancers and assistants. You will manage a diverse caseload of residential property matters; including sales, purchases, remortgages, and transfers of equity, while ensuring cases progress efficiently, and with a strong focus on client service.
The successful candidate will join a forward-thinking firm, playing a key role in delivering high-quality legal advice, mentoring colleagues, and driving ongoing improvements in processes and service delivery.
Key responsibilities:
Lead, supervise and develop a team of conveyancing fee earners and assistants; allocate work, monitor performance, provide coaching and mentoring, conduct regular 1:1s and assist with recruitment and induction as required.
Manage and maintain a personal caseload of residential property matters from instruction to completion, including freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, remortgages and transfers of equity; ensure matters progress in line with agreed timescales and client expectations.
Oversee quality and compliance across the team’s files; review and approve transactional documentation such as contracts, transfers, priority paperwork, replies to pre-contract enquiries and requisitions on title to ensure accuracy and adherence to lender and firm requirements.
Conduct and review title investigations, identify and manage title defects, leasehold issues and other risks; escalate complex or high-risk matters to senior management and liaise with external counsel where necessary.
Drive efficient case progression by liaising proactively with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders, surveyors, other firms and third parties to obtain information, chase outstanding actions and co-ordinate transactions to completion.
Ensure accurate file records and documentation on the case management system; promote consistent file note practice, support timely time recording and billing and prepare completion statements and client correspondence as required.
Key skills and experience:
Proven experience in residential conveyancing within a law firm or conveyancing practice, ideally with experience leading or supervising a team; previous role as a senior conveyancer, fee earner, senior paralegal or qualified solicitor desirable.
Strong technical knowledge of residential conveyancing including searches, title and leasehold issues, mortgage documentation, SDLT and completion accounting.
Demonstrable leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage performance and develop colleagues while maintaining a busy personal caseload.
Excellent drafting and document review skills with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work within deadlines.
Highly organised with the ability to prioritise competing demands, manage a varied caseload, meet client and lender timescales and work effectively in a hybrid working environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional, client-focused manner when dealing with clients and third parties.
Familiarity with case management systems, electronic document management and Microsoft Office applications; comfortable supporting the adoption of new systems and document automation tools.
