Private Client Solicitor
We are seeking an experienced Private Client Solicitor to join our team. This office-based role involves advising on a wide range of private client matters; including wills, trusts, probate and estate administration. The successful applicant will work within a collaborative, forward-thinking firm and deliver high-quality, client-focused advice while developing their practice.
Key responsibilities:
Manage a personal caseload of private client matters from instruction to completion, including drafting and advising on wills, trusts and lifetime planning; ensure matters progress in line with agreed timescales and client expectations.
Conduct probate and estate administration work from grant application through to estate distribution, including asset identification, claims handling, estate accounts and finalisation; liaise with executors, beneficiaries and third parties to resolve issues efficiently.
Prepare, review and draft Lasting Powers of Attorney (property & financial affairs; health & welfare), deputyship applications and supporting documentation; provide practical guidance on capacity and statutory duties.
Provide technical advice on trusts and succession planning, considering tax implications where relevant (inheritance tax awareness desirable); work with tax advisers and other specialists on more complex or novel matters.
Liaise proactively with clients, family members, financial advisers and other professional advisers to obtain information, gather instructions and co-ordinate matters to a timely conclusion.
Maintain accurate file records on the case management system, ensure comprehensive file notes and document management, assist with time recording and billing information and prepare client correspondence and accounts as required.
Key skills and experience:
Qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years' post-qualification experience in private client work, or equivalent experience as a senior practitioner handling wills, trusts, probate/estate administration, LPAs and deputyship matters.
Strong technical knowledge of private client law including wills and trusts, probate procedure, Lasting Powers of Attorney and capacity issues; an understanding of inheritance tax and related tax considerations is desirable.
Excellent drafting and document review skills with a high level of attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work within deadlines.
Highly organised with the ability to prioritise competing demands, manage a varied caseload with minimal supervision and meet client and internal targets.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a professional, empathetic manner when dealing with vulnerable clients and family members.
Familiarity with case management systems, electronic document management and Microsoft Office applications; comfortable learning new systems and document automation tools.
