The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of residential property matters, provide high‑quality legal advice, deliver excellent client care, ensure compliance with regulatory and firm procedures, and contribute to efficient team workflows.
This role offers exposure to a wide range of conveyancing matters including purchases, sales, remortgages, transfers of equity and leasehold work, and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Key responsibilities:
Manage a personal caseload of residential property transactions from initial instruction through to completion and post‑completion tasks, ensuring timely progression and clear client communication.
Provide clear, pragmatic legal advice to clients on conveyancing matters, identifying and managing legal risks and ensuring clients understand the process and implications of their transaction.
Carry out and oversee client identity checks and anti‑money laundering (AML) procedures, maintaining robust, audit‑ready records and ensuring compliance with firm and regulatory requirements.
Prepare, review and negotiate contracts, transfers, leasehold documentation, Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) returns and other standard conveyancing paperwork in line with firm precedents and best practice.
Liaise professionally with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders, surveyors, HM Land Registry, local authorities and other third parties to obtain necessary documentation, chase outstanding items and manage expectations.
Prepare and check completion statements, manage client account transactions and disbursements, and support billing and fee recovery processes in accordance with firm policies.
Maintain and update electronic case files, recording clear case notes, milestones and actions to support file reviews and ensure matter continuity.
Resolve routine and complex client and third‑party enquiries by telephone and email, escalating matters where appropriate and keeping clients informed of progress throughout.
Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, update precedents and support the implementation of conveyancing technology and workflow enhancements.
Provide supervision, training and support to junior colleagues and paralegals, sharing knowledge of procedures and promoting high standards of client care.
Key skills and experience required:
Solicitor qualified (or equivalent) with demonstrable experience handling residential conveyancing matters within a law firm or conveyancing practice.
Strong knowledge of residential property processes including HM Land Registry procedures, SDLT requirements and leasehold issues.
Familiarity with AML and client identification requirements and experience maintaining accurate, audit‑ready case files.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail across a varied caseload.
Confident and professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with clients, colleagues and external contacts.
Commercially aware, proactive and solutions‑focused with a commitment to continuous professional development and adoption of new systems and processes.
Benefits and working arrangements:
Hybrid working model with a mix of office and remote working as agreed with the team.
Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
