Residential Conveyancer
We are looking for an experienced Residential Conveyancer to join our client's busy, client‑focused property team. The successful candidate will manage a varied private client and residential property caseload, deliver exceptional client care, ensure compliance with regulatory and firm procedures, and help maintain efficient team workflows.
This role offers exposure to a broad range of conveyancing matters including purchases, sales, remortgages, transfers of equity and leasehold work, and operates within a hybrid working model.
Key responsibilities:
Progress residential property transactions from initial instruction to completion and post‑completion, ensuring timely progression and clear, professional communication with clients and third parties.
Conduct client identity checks and support anti‑money laundering (AML) compliance, maintaining accurate, audit‑ready case files and adherence to firm procedures.
Open and maintain electronic case files, record clear case notes, milestones and actions, and prepare files for review to support efficient matter progression.
Liaise with clients, estate agents, mortgage lenders, surveyors, HM Land Registry, local authorities and other third parties to obtain documentation, chase outstanding items and manage expectations professionally.
Prepare and check completion statements, manage disbursement requests and client account transactions, and assist with billing and fee recovery in line with firm policies.
Prepare and check standard documentation including client engagement letters, contract packs, transfers and Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with firm precedents.
Respond to routine client and third‑party enquiries by telephone and email, escalating complex matters to senior fee earners promptly and keeping clients informed of progress.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, contribute to the update of precedents and assist with the implementation of conveyancing technology and process improvements.
Provide guidance and support to junior colleagues, assisting with induction and training activities and sharing best practice where required.
Key skills and experience required:
Proven experience in a residential conveyancing role within a law firm or conveyancing practice, handling common transaction types including sales, purchases, remortgages, transfers of equity and leasehold matters.
Good knowledge of residential property processes, HM Land Registry practice, SDLT returns and leasehold documentation.
Familiarity with AML and client identification requirements and demonstrable experience maintaining accurate, audit‑ready files and compliance records.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail across multiple matters.
Confident and professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with clients, colleagues and external contacts.
Proactive, reliable and solutions‑focused with a willingness to develop technical knowledge, adopt new systems and support team improvements.
Benefits and working arrangements:
Hybrid working model with a mix of office and remote working as agreed with the team.
Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
Access to training and development to support career progression within the property team.
