Private Client Paralegal / Fee Earner

Key Responsibilities in Private Client Paralegal / Fee Earner Role
- Supporting solicitors and the wider Private Client team with the management of a varied caseload, including wills, probate, estate administration, powers of attorney, trusts, and tax planning matters.
- Preparing and drafting legal documents and correspondence, including wills, lasting powers of attorney, trust documentation, and grant applications, ensuring legal accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.
- Conducting legal research and assisting with complex estate and trust administration, including inheritance tax calculations and preparing comprehensive case summaries.
- Managing client communication—providing updates, answering enquiries, and collecting and verifying information sensitively and professionally.
- Liaising with clients, beneficiaries, banks, financial advisors, HMRC, and other relevant third parties to progress files efficiently and accurately.
- Accurately maintaining case files, utilising the firm’s case management systems, and ensuring that all actions are fully recorded and compliant with SRA, AML, and GDPR requirements.
Essential Skills and Experience for Private Client Paralegals and Fee Earners
- Previous experience as a paralegal or fee earner, in a private client dept, with the ability to manage your own workload independently under appropriate supervision.
- Strong understanding of wills, probate, estate administration, trusts, and powers of attorney, including the relevant legal procedures and documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating empathy, discretion, and professionalism in client interactions of a sensitive nature.
- Meticulous attention to detail in preparing legal documents and managing case files.
- Strong organisational abilities—capable of juggling multiple matters, prioritising, and working to deadlines.
- Confident user of legal case management systems and Microsoft Office, with a willingness to learn new processes and technologies.
Desirable Additional Qualities for Private Client Legal Careers
- Completed or part-completed STEP or a similar private client law qualification (desirable but not essential).
- Demonstrable commitment to ongoing learning and professional growth within the field of private client law.
